This is the beginning of the server policy thread. Hopefully we will not need to use it much or clarify many things. Policies will be added and clarified as needed.
Policies as they are written are not in order of importance as they will all have purpose.
1) This is a Heavy Roleplaying server. Training (leveling) and finding magic items are a part of the fun. But let us try to focus more on our character personalities and relationships than how tough we are. Power will come with time, lets create character personalities to back such power.
2) We do not limit who can party together as we wish to promote roleplay. If you are caught abusing our trust by powerleveling do not be suprised if actions are taken.
What is powerleveling? Originally this moslty refered to low levels partying with High levels so that all would get more experience faster. It was a matter of exploiting the system to earn more experience than would normally have been gained. This old definition of powergaming also touches the topic of giving powerful items to weaker characters for it lets them fight spawns normally beyond thier ability giving VERY high experience point yields, this will be discussed more fully below. Now we have a system in place that somewhat moderates the "powergaming" side of experience to allow greater party level variety. Taking advantage of game limitations like creature AI and using small objects to trap foes could also be included in the term powergaming.
Hunting the lands and looting is not considered powergaming
It is the exploitation of the system for the sake of Experience points and magic items that is powergaming
Along the same lines please do not do quests for less experienced characters for the purpose of getting them uber gear and rewards.
3) Characters must spend ALL skill points when leveling.
No banking skill points
4) Lost Items will not be replaced, whither do to
player error,server crashes/resets, etc..
5) PvP is allowed if:
a) arena, ok anytime
b) DM events that pit one group against another, both parties know what is involved is ok
c) someone steals from you
d) one racial group attacks anothers homeland or is seen attacking citizens/guards.
*deal with the consequences if caught, do not have others portal in to cover your rear end and keep you alive, or run and think again before you start pvp actions*
e) Both parties have agreed to a PvP match, why someone would do this outside the arena is beyond me. But this is roleplaying (note- A DM will not rez you if you are killed in an agreed PvP match, nor will they restore your XP loss for dying.)
6) Camping... Camping is going to and staying in one area and repeatedly respawning creatures for the purpose of slaying them again, ussually for the sole purpose of xp. This is seriously frowned upon. It is fine to go to a place and adventure. We understand that especially for Epic characters there are limited areas for you to earn good xp (that is not what the game is about). If you are caught camping an area you may be warned by a DM, he may just spawn critters and make it very tough for you to survive. Camping offenses may result in untimely demise. We have set encounter spawns fairly high, so you may wait 15-30 minutes before an area begins to respawn.. Camping is now a waste of your time... But we will still not tolerate any camping.
7) Even thought this is a mature PW please keep the language clean, this is no cussing, cursing, or whatever you prefer to call it. The occassional d**n or such is fine but more extreme and generally more offensive words are a no no. After all we have kids here as young 7 years old.
In the policies is says not to do quests/ give quest items to those who could not earn them. I will now expand on this so that we can eliminate further confusion. I will even give a good reason why (from a DM view). I will set here a general guideline for items and how they can be shared ( I would prefer that this did not need to be posted but it does).
+1 Item - levels 3+
+2 Item - levels 7+
+3 Item - levels 11+
+4 Item - levels 14+
+5 Item - levels 19+
+6 Item - levels 23+
+7 Item - levels 27+
+8 Item - levels 31+
+9 Item - levels 35+
+10 Item - levels 39+
*or roughly equivalent items:
1-3, 1d4, & 1d6 extra damage adds a +1
4-6, 1d8, 2d4, & 1d10 extra damage adds a +2
7-9, 1d12, 2d6, & 2d8 extra damage adds a +3
10-12, 2d10 extra damage adds a +4
13-15, 2d12 extra damage adds a +5
This should give you all the general idea of item power levels and an idea of what is too powerful to share.
Now, why have such silly limitations, especially on a server without Item Level Restrictions? First, most of us DM's dislike ILR and find it unrealistic and so it isnt used. We have been tempted to implement it however. But there are then crafted items that could not ever be used. In a normal pnp game the DM controls the magic in the game very easily, here we do not have this convenience. The problem with giving low level characters relatively powerful items is that it makes things too easy for them. Yes, i know some of you like this. We all like to feel like our characters are powerful. But when this overpowered character parties with others they have a tendancy to steal much of the fun from the others by walking through foes more easily. That is a downside from the player side, and one i have experienced often. From the DM side it is more subtle, we do not have the time to look at a characters level and inventory to see how powerful they are before preparing an encounter or story event. An overpowered Character can easily disrupt the balance of an encounter or other DM device that is there to make the game more fun for all.
This thread will be edited as needed to reflect current policies.
Thank you and I hope we all have a wonderful time
